Some of us are so ready for 2012, we’re acting as if 2011 is already over. From the coming election to the possible end of the world (thank you Mayan calendar!), 2012 has incredibly high expectations. Let’s take a breath and remember that today is Monday and tomorrow will be Tuesday. Next year will come soon enough!

Worst Trends of the Year

Yahoo bloggers have been kind enough to gather a list of the worst trends of 2011. The list includes phenomena like the P90X workout and bandage dresses. Both of these rather unforgiving trends caused a lot of healthy looking people to do really dumb things to look like celebrities. Working out without guidance and dressing your body like you’re covered in wounds was so dumb, thank God it’s so last year!

Digitalization can Save Heritage Languages

NYTimes takes us into the world of N’Ko, a spoken language whose pen form is derived from Arabic and other languages. The type was invented by a scholar who taught a few students and then dispersed the knowledge to universities around the world, where the members of the original N’Ko group work and teach. It’s an interesting look at spoken languages and how American culture (“pop-culture” namely) is perceived around the world.
